Dr Anil Khatri did his graduation & post graduation in Paediatrics from M.P.Shah Medical College, Jamnagar; where his involvement with blood started as early as 2nd M.B.B.S. student, when he started managing a student organization called Blood Donors’ Association. From then on, he has never looked back.

He started the ‘Hemoglobinopathies Program’, which he Chairs, at Indian Red Cross Society, Gujarat State branch at Ahmedabad. From a small start with a single Cell Counter & one Variant, this has grown to become the biggest Program of South East Asia, and boasts of having screened more than 40 lakh youth and 4 lakh pregnant ladies. A robust in- house Pre –Natal Diagnosis Program has ensured prevention of birth of 460 children with Thalassemia Major.

Under the Patient Monitoring Program,conceived & developed by him, about 4500 Thalassemia Major and 7000 Sickle Cell Diease patients across the State are tested biannually for their biochemical & viral profile.

Dr Anil Khatri is also a member of the State Task Force on Hemoglobinopathies & has to his credit, the success of influencing the Govt. of Gujarat to provide Free Iron Chelators & Bone Morrow Transplant to the patients of Thalassemia Major.

Over the past 15 years, he has made various Presentations across forums at State, National & International level.He has also organized number of CMEs & Conferences for doctors & patients alike.

He also heads ‘Thalassemia Jagruti Foundation’, an organization committed to the Cause of Awareness, Prevention, Care & Support of Thalassemia.
He has been the guiding force for various publications of Indian Red Cross Society, Gujarat.

He also specializes in identifying & creating synergies at the ground level, which has resulted in the creation of a strong & successful Model of PUBLIC-PRIVATE-NGO partnership in Gujarat, which is paying rich dividends.

He derives immense satisfaction by seeing Smiles on the faces of children suffering from life threatening disorders, by fulfilling their Wishes as Hon . Director of Make A Wish Foundation, Gujarat.
